Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at info@terriclaireacupuncture.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Acupuncture is a traditional therapy that involves inserting very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body to support balance, circulation, and natural healing processes. It has been practiced for thousands of years and is now widely integrated into modern wellness care.

Most people are surprised by how gentle it feels. The needles are extremely thin—much finer than injection needles. You may feel a dull, warm, tingling sensation it varies depending on where the needles are used. Many clients find treatments deeply relaxing.

Acupuncture is commonly used to support:

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Neck, shoulder, and back pain

  • Digestive concerns

  • Hormonal balance

  • Fertility support

  • Sleep issues

  • Menstrual discomfort

  • General wellness and immune support

  • Skin rejuvenation and glow

If you’re unsure whether acupuncture is right for your concern, feel free to get in touch.

This depends on your individual condition and goals.

  • Acute issues may improve in 1–4 sessions

  • Chronic concerns often require a series (typically 5–10 sessions)

  • Some clients choose ongoing sessions for maintenance and preventative care

After your first appointment, we’ll recommend a treatment plan tailored to you.

Appointments typically last between 45–60 minutes. Your first session may be slightly longer to allow time for consultation and assessment.

Yes. Acupuncture is very safe when performed by a qualified practitioner. Sterile, single-use needles are always used. Side effects are rare and usually mild (such as slight bruising or temporary soreness).

  • Eat a light meal beforehand (don’t come on an empty stomach)

  • Stay hydrated

  • Wear comfortable, loose clothing

  • Avoid alcohol before treatment

Many people feel relaxed and calm. Others feel energized. Occasionally, mild soreness or temporary symptom changes can occur as your body responds. Drinking water and resting afterward is recommended.

  • Rest: Take it easy after your session; avoid strenuous activity.

  • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to support your body’s healing.

  • Eat Lightly: Choose a healthy, balanced meal; avoid heavy or greasy foods.

  • Notice Changes: Mild soreness, relaxation, or emotional shifts are normal. Always helpful to track symptom progress

  • Avoid Extremes:  It’s best to wait 4–6 hours before taking a hot shower, bath, sauna, or exposing treated areas to cold or drafts. This helps your body maintain the subtle effects of the treatment and supports optimal healing.

  • Follow Up: Stick to your recommended treatment plan for best results.

Yes acupuncture is commonly used to relieve the discomfort during pregnancy and can be supportive during pregnancy. However, please inform us if you are pregnant so treatment can be adjusted accordingly.

In many cases, yes. However, please inform us if you have recently had Botox, dermal fillers, or any medical procedures so we can ensure treatment is appropriate and safe.
